NVTC COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS

Parents and Associates of Northern Virginia Training Center is a 501(c)3 organization. Our organization consists of parents and other interested persons whose goal is to promote the welfare and development of all citizens with mental retardation.

Northern Virginia Training Center offers the most appropriate educational and vocational experience for each individual based on his or her skills and interests. Skilled staff teach appropriate work behaviors while completing valuable tasks on our campus and in surrounding communities. These tasks include bulk mail contracts, document collating and assembly, recycling, and numerous other skill building activities.

Tree Dedication in Memory of Harry Raab, Jr.

Raab Tree DedicationSunday, September 7, the NVTC Religious Advisory Board dedicated a tree to the memory of Harry F. Raab, Jr., long-time devoted friend of the Center. The dedication was part of the service of worship that was held at Home 3, starting at 2 pm. It was a beautiful day allowing the dedication to be held in the Home 3 garden following the service.
Harry passed away last February. He devoted over 25 years of his life serving the spiritual needs of the Center, primarily leading monthly worship services at Home 3, but also visiting residents who were hospitalized or had been sent to the Observation Care Unit, and speaking at or conducting memorial services for the departed. In an article that appeared in the Fairfax County Times last December it was said of him, "Harry brings love, compassion, companionship, and words of comfort and reassurance to those who most need it. No one is long a stranger or without a friend when Harry comes into their lives." The tree will serve as a constant reminder of Harry's special gifts and legacy. Virginia Senators Visit NVTC

Barker_HerringVirginia State Senator George Barker (39th District) and his aide, Anna Johnson, along with Senator Mark Herring (33rd District) recently visited and toured NVTC. While our visitors got drenched in a heavy rain while moving from campus home to home, it did not dampen their spirits! NVTC Program Manager, Laura Small led the tour along with several NVTC client parents. [pictured from left: Ms. Johnson, Sen. Barker, Ms. Small, Sen. Herring].
